Know Better:

Valentine Ganseman

Today we meet Valentine Ganseman, Head of Farmer Commercial, Agreena

Let's get to know each other!

At the beginning of 2025, Agreena achieved a major milestone: the AgreenaCarbon project was officially registered under Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard! Valentine Ganseman, Head of Farmer Commercial shared insights into their mission:

Q: How did this initiative come about, and what are your long-term objectives?
A: Our mission is to accelerate the transition to regenerative agriculture by financially empowering farmers and supporting corporate sustainability efforts. With nearly half of the world’s land dedicated to farming, shifting to climate-positive practices is essential for reducing emissions and preserving biodiversity. Our vision is to drive change at a scale visible from space, ensuring a more sustainable and resilient food system

Q: How does the AgreenaCarbon program work? What kind of services and support do you offer to farmers?
A: AgreenaCarbon enables farmers to adopt regenerative practices while generating high-quality carbon credits. We operate in 20+ countries, supporting over 2,300 farmers across 4.5 million hectares. Farmers are financially rewarded for implementing practices like no-till farming, organic fertilization, and cover cropping. Using robust monitoring and verification, we ensure that carbon reductions are accurately measured and converted into credits.

Q: What types of clients can benefit from Agreena’s services?
A: Agreena serves farmers, corporations, and financial institutions. Agri-food businesses leverage our program to reduce Scope 3 emissions, while companies outside the sector invest in certified carbon credits to meet sustainability targets. Financial institutions also collaborate with us to support the long-term resilience of agricultural businesses.

Q: What does obtaining Verra certification mean for Agreena, and how does it impact trust and credibility in the carbon credit market?
A: Becoming the first large-scale agricultural cropland project registered under Verra’s VM0042 methodology is a major milestone for us. This certification ensures the credibility and scientific integrity of the carbon credits generated through AgreenaCarbon. Farmers gain a reliable revenue stream, and companies can invest with confidence in verified, European carbon credits.

Q: Can you explain the process of obtaining Verra certification? What were the biggest challenges, and how were they overcome?
A: Achieving Verra certification required years of rigorous assessment, independent audits, and compliance with strict carbon crediting standards. As pioneers in agricultural carbon credits, we navigated complex documentation and verification processes to ensure transparency and credibility at every step.

Q: How does Verra certification differentiate Agreena’s carbon credits from similar products, and what are the benefits for your clients?
A: Verra certification guarantees that Agreena’s carbon credits meet the highest global standards. For farmers, this means financial security in adopting regenerative practices. For corporations, it provides a trusted solution for emissions reduction. This certification strengthens confidence in the voluntary carbon market and accelerates the shift toward sustainable agriculture.
